Enid Newberg, MA Whole Systems Design focusing on adult education. Enid has been a librarian, astrologer, childbirth educator, paralegal, IT and web developer, trainer, entrepreneur, and administrator. Throughout her varied career, her favorite job has always been teaching.
Enid’s desire to further opportunities for astrological education was a vital part of her motivation to accept the presidency of Kepler College when it opened (2000-2001) and again from 2007-2019. In 2013, her interest in preserving and expanding an understanding of our astrological heritage led her to help establish the Alexandria iBase Project.
Why do I feel the ICAE is important?
Over the years that I have taught astrology, I have seen how students have become frustrated when they attempt to convey their level of knowledge to themselves as well as their clients. Is a credential from one school or teacher equal to another? Does a general test by an astrology organization equate to a comprehensive program? These questions reflect potential roadblocks to a student’s education. What happens when they want to study at different schools or with various individual astrologers? Some classes give you credit for signing up; others require specific testing. Some classes have a singular focus; others provide an overview. A competency indicates that not only has a student been exposed to a technique or activity, but has also received feedback that says they have acquired a competency in that area.
Creating a shared understanding of what constitutes astrological competencies will be challenging, but I believe it is needed for astrology’s future.
