The individuals who comprise the main body of the ICAE are all astrology educators. We come from different countries and have different astrological traditions. We are united in our desire to find a standard method of helping teachers and students evaluate how well students have learned the competencies we need to practice our profession. All types of students would benefit, including those who want to be counseling astrologers, teachers, or researchers, and those who wish to combine astrology with their current profession or use astrology to enhance their lives.
Competency focuses on results and how we measure results. The ICAE recognizes that students can become competent in a particular technique, method, or interpretative approach through self-study, classes from individual teachers, or an entire program. In the past, astrologers have had the option of showing competency through generalized tests that focus on a particular style of astrology. We propose an alternative that recognizes every step of an astrologer’s education. Students can collect competencies from any teacher or school that has agreed on common measurements. The ICAE hopes to develop a central clearing house where competencies and their measurement are agreed upon and shared.
The ICAE was incorporated on May 1, 2024, at 1:00 pm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
